MONTEREY COUNTY (CBS SF) -- The pilot of a single-engine airplane died Thursday night when the plane crashed in Monterey County, a Federal Aviation Administration spokesman said.
The homebuilt airplane departed from Salinas Municipal Airport and crashed at a vineyard in Chualar at around 7 p.m., according to FAA spokesman Ian Gregor said.
The pilot was reportedly the only person on board and the plane was destroyed in the crash, Gregor said.
