Pickup Truck Driver Arrested After East Bay Police Chase
ALAMO (CBS SF) - A vehicle pursuit through several East Bay cities ended peacefully in Alamo Thursday night when the suspect surrendered to authorities, a sheriff's lieutenant said.
The chase began in Pittsburg where police attempted to pull over a pickup truck and the driver fled, Contra Costa County Sheriff's Lt. David Hartman said.
The pursuit then went into Antioch, back to Pittsburg and onto state Highway 4, state Highway 242 and finally onto Interstate Highway 680, Hartman said.
Contra Costa County Sheriff's deputies and California Highway Patrol officers joined the pursuit along the way.
Spike strips were deployed twice, once in Pittsburg and later on I-680 by CHP officers, Hartman said.
"Towards the end of the pursuit the guy was pretty much rolling on rims," Hartman said.
The chase finally ended in the unincorporated area of Alamo, south of Walnut Creek, when the suspect stopped the truck, got out and put his hands up.
CHP officers had taken over the case at that point, and took the suspect into custody. No further information about the suspect was immediately available.
