Pickup Hits, Kills Pedestrian In San Jose
SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- A pedestrian was struck and killed while crossing Monterey Highway in San Jose on Monday evening, police said.
The pedestrian, a 34-year-old man, was crossing the highway near Old Tully Road at around 6:30 p.m. when he was struck by a Toyota Tundra pickup truck traveling southbound on Monterey Highway, police said.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said the driver of the truck, an adult female, remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be a factor.
The victim's name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Monterey Highway is closed to traffic in both directions between Tully and Umbarger roads as police investigate. Drivers are asked to avoid the area and find an alternate route.
