Phil Matier: Some Muni Workers Watching World Series Gratis
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS)- The San Francisco Giants are rewarding some MTA workers with special tickets letting them into AT&T Park during the World Series, but some of the agency's higher-ups had a different idea.
KCBS and Chronicle Insider Phil Matier says it's a program that's been going on for a long time, but no one paid much attention until the World Series rolled around.
KCBS' Phil Matier Reports:
He said the idea is that the workers could go in around the fourth inning and get some food, use the bathroom and watch some baseball before going back out to handle the crowds at the end of the game.
When the World Series became a reality there were concerns from higher-ups that the workers would try to scalp their tickets, which turned into talks that the mid-level managers should get the tickets, or even people on the board of directors. The Muni rank-and-file, who had been used to getting the tickets didn't like that idea, and called the press, who called Nat Ford, the director of the MTA. Ford said that the workers would get the tickets end of story.
They will wear their Muni vests inside, in order to squelch scalping fears.
