Phil Matier: San Francisco's DA Outpaced In Campaign Funding
(KCBS) New campaign finance figures in the California attorney general's race show Republican Steve Cooley out-raising Democrat Kamala Harris during the past three months. KCBS and Chronicle Insider Phil Matier says that this comes as the race is heating up over issues such as San Francisco's status as a sanctuary city.
KCBS & Chronicle Insider Phil Matier:
Spokesman Kevin Spillane says Cooley, the Los Angeles district attorney, raised nearly $2.2 million between July and September.
That compares to $1.8 million reported by Harris in the same period. Harris is San Francisco's city attorney.
With just one month until the November election, Cooley has $1.7 million in cash on hand. Harris reported $1.3 million on hand.
Campaign finance reports for statewide races were due Tuesday, when Harris and Cooley clashed over issues ranging from the environment to corporal punishment during their only scheduled debate.
