PG&E Offers Expanded Gas Pipeline Maps
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - Pacific Gas and Electric is making information regarding gas transmission pipelines more available to customers.
The maps showing transmission line locations, which were given to cities last week, are now available to individual homeowners.
PG&E spokesman Joe Molica said the maps have now been posted on their website.
KCBS Mike Colgan Reporting:
"If they would like to see whether a gas transmission line runs near their residence, they can go online," he said. "Log in under their account and see if there is a gas transmission line that may run near their residence."
The utility initially claimed that they couldn't release the locations for security reasons, but were pressured to be more transparent by the California Public Utilities Commission.
"PG&E really wanted to address our customers concerns, but yet at the same time, strike an appropriate balance between safety and security," said Molica. "We feel that these maps really achieve that. We're always working to improve this system online and we'll working to make these maps even more interactive."
There are also maps showing the locations of gas transmission lines for your entire city.
