PG&E May Increase Pressure In Peninsula Gas Line
SAN BRUNO (KCBS) - The state assemblyman who represents San Bruno is asking PG&E not to increase pressure in a natural gas pipeline that runs along Interstate 101, but the utility said it's making no promises.
PG&E was told to reduce pressure in all gas lines around San Bruno after September's fatal leak and fire, and Assemblyman Jerry Hill says he wants to keep it that way.
KCBS' Bob Butler Reports:
"Until we have the metallurgical analysis of what broke down in the pipe in San Bruno, I don't believe we should be increasing the pressure back in this line to the 375 pounds per square inch that it was before," said Hill, who adds that the pipeline along 101 is even older than the one that failed in San Bruno.
But with the approach of winter, the utility's Joe Molica says it may have to provide more gas.
"We're looking at all scenarios in our work with the CPUC," said Molica. "We're analyzing our ability to meet increased customer demand this winter at our current lower operating pressure."
