Petition To Ban Seahawks Color Scheme On BART Nears Signature Goal
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - When Bay Area Rapid Transit officials showed off the planned look of new train cars last week some members of the Niner faithful were taken aback by the Seattle Seahawks-like color scheme. Now thousands have gone online to demand a change of color scheme.
"To outfit BART car seats in the team colors of the Seattle Seahawks (i.e. neon green and blue) is an outrage and a slap in the face of every San Francisco 49ers fan who rides BART," said petitioner Nasir Safdar in his Change.org post.
The official petition reads as follows:
To:
Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART), General Manager Grace Crunican
Please refrain from outfitting the seats in BART cars in neon green and blue, the colors of the NFL's Seattle Seahawks.
As of Tuesday afternoon, more than 2,200 people had signed the petition leaving it less than 300 short of the stated goal.
BART is still taking public input on the trains, and has several public viewings planned for the new cars. System officials say they will be easier to clean and quieter than the current fleet.
49er fans are still smarting after falling just short against Seattle in the NFC Championship Game in January, ending the team's hope of a repeat appearance in the Super Bowl.
