Pete Rose Says Bonds Also Deserves Entry To Hall Of Fame

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - The best-known non-member of the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame says Barry Bonds does not deserve to be excluded from Cooperstown either, reports ESPN.

Pete Rose, baseballs all-time hits leader, was asked by Reuters this week if he would vote in former Giants slugger who has been tainted by steroid scandal. "You're damn right I would," said Rose, who added that fellow steroid suspect Rocger Clemens also deserves entry. "These guys are seven-time MVPs, seven-time Cy Young Award winner."

Rose was given a lifetime ban in 1989 after it was revealed that Rose bet on his team while managing the Cincinnati Reds. He has since petitioned for reinstatement, but outgoing commissioner Bud Selig never ruled on the request.

Earlier this month, Bonds and Clemens received fewer than 40 percent of the vote to enter Cooperstown; 75 percent is required for entry.
