Petaluma Teen Burned From Allegedly Making Hash Oil, Causing Fire
PETALUMA (CBS SF) - A 15-year-old boy sustained burns and caused a structure fire while manufacturing hash at a downtown Petaluma apartment on Tuesday night, according to police.
At about 9:30 p.m., Petaluma firefighters responded to a structure fire at the Downtown River Apartments located at 35 E. Washington St., police said.
The fire occurred inside an apartment at an 81-unit equal housing opportunity complex run by Eden Housing.
Fire crews contacted police to assist in the investigation.
According to the police investigation, the apartment fire occurred while the 15-year-old Petaluma boy attempted to heat the dried marijuana to extract oil for the production of hash.
A small fire was ignited inside the apartment and the juvenile suffered burns to his face and arm, police said.
He was transported to the Petaluma Valley Hospital for treatment of his burns, according to police.
The boy was issued a citation to appear in juvenile court for manufacturing hash oil, police said.
The apartment had minor fire damage and significant water damage, according to police.
