Pescadero Country Store Owner Working Toward Reopening After Devastating Fire
PESCADERO (KCBS) -- The owners of the Pescadero Country Store continue putting the pieces back together in the weeks since the business was destroyed by fire on September 18th.
That two-alarm fire was reported at 5:30 in the morning on September 18th, and some parts of the beloved Pescadero Country store have been lost forever including a mural that hung above the entrance.
"Our mural up there was originally painted by Albert Krebs, then Chris Dutch – another local artist touched it up, and then my sister, who has now passed away was the last to touch it up. And, now it's gone," Owner Cindy Simms told KCBS.
Simms does plan to rebuild the business, which was a fixture and very popular with tourists and locals alike. Simms says she still is working through the insurance process, and she hasn't gotten an estimate of how much it will cost to rebuild yet. Meanwhile, the store's employees have been checking in the progress.
"They all really want to go back to work. Our insurance company's been really good, they say they're going to pay them. They're all looking for work – some of them have found work, and they're kind of waiting for us to reopen," Simms said.
Simms launched a GoFundMe campaign for the rebuilding that has raised about $60,000 so far.
