Person Fatally Struck On Caltrain Tracks; 12th Fatality This Year
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- An adult male died when he was struck Wednesday evening by a train in San Francisco, according to Caltrain, which operates the train.
The male was struck at 7:54 p.m. on the tracks between the South San Francisco and Bayshore stations.
A coroner with the San Mateo County Sheriff's Transit Police Bureau arrived on the scene at 9:34 p.m. to investigate.
Officials said that though it is early in the investigation, this incident appears to have been an intentional act. However, the final cause of death and identification of the individual will be determined by the San Mateo County Coroner's office.
All trains in the area are stopped and emergency personnel have arrived.
About 200 people are on board the train and no one reported being injured, according to Caltrain.
The death is the 12th on Caltrain tracks this year, Caltrain officials said.
At around 9:20 p.m., officials began transferring passengers from Northbound train #289 to Northbound train #193.
Caltrain advised travelers to expect delays anywhere between 60 to 90 minutes.
