Peninsula Tsunami Siren Failures Prompt Early Start To Replacement Project
SAN MATEO (KCBS) - A routine test of tsunami warning sirens along the San Mateo County coast conducted last week showed only three of eight sirens working properly, according to officials.
The failure of the tsunami sirens dotting the coast between Pacifica and Pescadero has prompted the Sheriff's Office of Emergency Services to move up the start date of a siren replacement project.
Sirens' Failures Kick Replacement Project Into High Gear
According to the San Francisco Examiner, the replacement project could begin as early as this week, with the hopes of having the work completed before the next scheduled test, on September 4.
Officials stressed that other safeguards were in place, including text and e-mail alerts, should there be a need for a tsunami warning.
