Peninsula Leader Calls On PG&E To Disclose Stressed Pipelines
SAN BRUNO (KCBS) — A Peninsula state assemblyman is calling on PG&E to quickly tell the public the location of 10 gas pipelines where it has spiked pressure to their legal limits. That's because a similar amount of pressure had been spiked twice on a line in San Bruno before it exploded in September.
KCBS' Bob Melrose Reports:
Over the weekend it was revealed that the utility periodically put the maximum pressure on 10 gas lines over the years. Some experts believe that the fact that this was done in San Bruno in 2003 and 2008 could have caused the line to weaken, setting up last September's explosion.
Assemblyman Jerry Hill said that PG&E needs to reveal the location of those 10 lines.
"The same conditions could exist elsewhere in the state, at least on those other 10 lines, that existed in San Bruno on September 9th," said Hill.
A PG&E spokesman said the utility is doing an extensive search on the issue, and has until March 15th to come up with the information. Hill wants the PUC to force the utility to come up with those results sooner.
