Peninsula Cities Lose Bid To Block High-Speed Along Caltrain Corridor
SACRAMENTO (CBS/AP) -- The cities of Atherton, Menlo Park and Palo Alto have lost a bid to block the California high-speed rail line along the peninsula's Caltrain corridor.
A Sacramento County judge's dismissal of the 5-year-old lawsuit on Thursday means that the state can send its planned $68 billion high-speed rail network from the San Joaquin Valley and through the Pacheco Pass into San Jose and San Francisco.
The peninsula cities and environmentalists argued the route would negatively harm the environment and they sued under the California Environmental Quality Act.
They had proposed a longer alternate round that would take high-speed rail trains on an east San Francisco Bay route through the Altamont Pass.
