Pelosi Touts Health Care Reform In San Francisco Visit
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- House Minority leader Nancy Pelosi spoke in San Francisco Monday about the need to protect aspects of health care reform from being cut, one year after the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act was signed into law.
Pelosi spoke at the South of Market Health Center, a $16 million clinic on 7th Street that opens May 2nd. The clinic will be able to serve 40,000 patients a year, 73 percent of which live below the poverty level. Pelosi says funding from the Affordable Care Act was crucial to opening the center.

The Republican majority in Congress is looking to cut funding for such centers to help the nation's budget deficit. Pelosi said their proposals would lead to shutting down 137 clinics in 39 states.
"It would reduce services at another 1,096 community health centers," she said. "Two point eight million people would lose access to their primary care provider."
Pelosi has made several appearances around the country this week to mark the anniversary of the Affordable Care Act.
