Burlingame Caltrain Death An Apparant Suicide
BURLINGAME (CBS/BCN) -- A man was struck and killed by a Caltrain in Burlingame Monday morning in an apparent suicide, a Caltrain spokeswoman said.
He was hit by northbound train No. 305 at about 6:20 a.m. roughly 30 feet north of the Oak Grove Avenue pedestrian crossing, Bartholomew said.
The man, identified by the coroner's office as a 39-year-old San Francisco resident, was pronounced dead at the scene, Bartholomew said.
No passengers or crew were injured.
Trains were initially stopped in both directions, then were allowed to single-track through the area. At about 8:25 a.m., the tracks reopened in both directions and trains returned to normal speed.
The death marks the second fatality on Caltrain tracks since the beginning of the year, Bartholomew said. Eleven people died on Caltrain tracks in 2010, down from 19 in 2009.
