Pedestrian Killed By Caltrain Near Menlo Park Station

MENLO PARK (BCN) - A person was struck and killed by a train in Menlo Park Sunday evening, and nearby customers should expect delays, a Caltrain spokeswoman said.

Caltrain's southbound train number 438 struck a person on the train tracks north of the Menlo Park station at about 5:14 p.m., spokeswoman Tasha Bartholomew said.

The person was on the track for unknown reasons, and the official position is they were trespassing, she added.

Train 438 was shut down and passengers were being transferred to other trains. The next train, 442, is meant to arrive at the Menlo Park station at 7:14 p.m., but could be 15 minutes late.

Additional southbound trains with service to San Jose could experience similar delays until the scene is cleared.

Trains are being routed onto one track in the area. Train 438 remains unmoving on the second track while riders are transferred.

Police and officials from the San Mateo County coroner's office are at the scene of the incident.

Bartholomew said Caltrain's last train track fatality took about two hours before the scene was cleared.

She added that this is the seventh fatality for Caltrain this year.
