Pedestrian Killed By Caltrain In San Mateo
SAN MATEO (CBS SF) - A man who was struck and killed by a Caltrain in San Mateo early Friday morning has been identified as 23-year-old Eric Roof, according to the San Mateo County coroner's office.
Roof, of San Mateo, was struck on the tracks by a Caltrain about 100 yards north of 25th Avenue at about 1 a.m., according to the coroner's office and Caltrain spokeswoman Christine Dunn.
Train 128, which struck Roof, had been traveling south from San Francisco, where it departed at about midnight, Dunn said.
Dunn would not say if the operator of the train was placed on administrative leave or reassigned to a different position.
At about 2:10 a.m., a little more than an hour after Roof was struck, Train 128 continued on its route and made all scheduled stops.
Delays were about 90 minutes for passengers on the train. There were 62 passengers at the time of the crash.
This was Caltrain's fifth fatality this year. Last year, there were 11 Caltrain service-related fatalities.
