Pedestrian Struck, Killed By Caltrain In Burlingame
BURLINGAME (CBS SF) - A person was struck and killed by a train in Burlingame Wednesday afternoon and Caltrain service was briefly halted, officials said.
Northbound train No. 143 hit the person at Peninsula Avenue in Burlingame at 12:23 p.m., Caltrain spokeswoman Christine Dunn said.
The train left San Jose at 11:10 a.m. and was making all local stops. There were about 900 passengers on board when the incident occured, and they were transferred to another train, Dunn said.
The tracks were initially shut down in both directions between the San Mateo and Millbrae stations, but the tracks later reopened with trains operating at reduced speeds.
The person who was killed had not yet been identified.
The death was the eighth fatality on Caltrain tracks this year, Dunn said. Last year, there were 11 deaths on the tracks.
