Antioch Tragedy: 11-Year-Old Boy Killed In Fatal Car-Pedestrian Collision
ANTIOCH (CBS SF) -- An 11-year-old boy was killed Thursday evening in a collision with a vehicle in Antioch, police said.
Officers were dispatched at 6:45 p.m. to Lone Tree Way near Deer Valley Road for a collision involving a pedestrian. When officers arrived the boy had major injuries but then died.
Police said the boy was apparently crossing Lone Tree Way outside of a crosswalk and was hit by a vehicle passing by.
The driver of the vehicle stopped and cooperated with police officers. According to police, it appears impairment did not play a role in the collision.
The boy's name was not released by police.
A passenger in the vehicle apparently suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital, Steve Hill, a spokesman for the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District, said.
Anyone with information about the collision is asked to call or email Officer Johnsen at (925) 779-6900 Ext 84265 or at ejohnsen@ci.antioch.ca.us.
Lone Tree Way remained closed for several hours between Deer Valley Road and Sagebrush.
