Palo Alto Woman Pulled Into Alley, Robbed

PALO ALTO (CBS SF) -- Police were asking the public for help tracking down a suspect who committed a strong-arm robbery Monday night in downtown Palo Alto, police said.

The robbery happened about 10:45 p.m. Monday in the 200 block of Hamilton Avenue, police said.

The victim, a woman in her 20s, waited until Tuesday to report the robbery, according to police.

Investigators learned that the woman, who works at a downtown business, was heading west on Hamilton Avenue when a man grabbed her ponytail and pulled her into an alley between Ramona and Emerson streets, police said.

The man demanded money from the victim and she complied, police said. He then fled the area through the alley, according to police.

It was unknown whether the robbery was connected to any other downtown robberies this year, police said. The last robbery reported downtown was on March 3.

The victim did not see the suspect and can only describe him as taller than 5-foot-5 with a deep, raspy voice, according to police.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at (650) 329-2413 or anonymously at (650) 383-8984, or email anonymously to paloalto@tipnow.org.
