Pac-12 To Hold Football Championship Games At Levi's Stadium For Next Three Years
SANTA CLARA (CBS SF) -- The Pacific 12 Conference will hold its Football Championship Game at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara for the next three years, with the first set for Dec. 5, a conference official said.
The Pac-12 chose the planned $1.2 billion Levi's Stadium as a neutral site that would give fans the chance to see the championship game in a "state-of-the-art" venue, according to conference Commissioner Larry Scott.
The football title for the 12-team conference, which includes western U.S. colleges such as Stanford and the University of California at Berkeley, have been played for the last there years at the school that won the division and had the best overall record in the conference.
The game pits the champions of the Northern and Southern divisions of the Pac-12 with the winner playing in the Rose Bowl national finals games in Pasadena against the winner of the Big-10 conference of colleges in the Midwest.
Tickets for the Dec. 5 game go on sale starting this Monday for Pac-12 season ticket holders and Levi's Stadium Stadium Builder License, or SBL, owners, and to the general public on May 23.
Levi's stadium, which will have 68,500 seats, will serve as the home of the San Francisco 49ers starting this year, the site of the Pac-12 game between Berkeley and University of Oregon on Oct. 24, and the NFL's Super Bowl in February 2016.
