Officials Release Name Of Boy Who Shot Teacher Near Reno
SPARKS, Nev. (CBS / AP) -- City officials in Sparks, Nev., have released the name of the boy suspected of killing a middle school teacher and wounding two students before turning a gun on himself on a middle school campus.
In a prepared statement city officials identified the boy Thursday as Jose Reyes. Police earlier said the lone shooter was a 12-year-old in seventh grade.
The city came under pressure from media organizations to provide the name after police refused, saying they wanted to respect his family.
City officials later acknowledged a report from the Univision affiliate in Reno that disclosed the name and said they would release it publicly to be fair to families and other media outlets.
Killed in the attack were 45-year-old Sparks Middle School teacher Michael Landsberry.
