Officials At NASA Ames Research Center Happy With Government Funding

MOUNTAIN VIEW (KCBS) -- As part of the annual budget request, the White House has proposed freezing NASA's budget for 2012 at 2010 levels. Officials at the Bay Area's NASA Ames Research Center say this is good news.

"Particularly given the financial situation the country finds itself in, we're very pleased with the support the administration has given NASA," said Peter Worden, director of the NASA Ames Research Center in Mountain View.

KCBS' Melissa Culross Reports:

NASA Ames has requested $755 million of NASA's overall $18.7 billion 2012 budget, and Worden is confident he will see that money.

"This center is a robust center and the new budget continues a trend of us doing interesting work," he said.

With an additional $100-150 million that NASA Ames expects from other government agencies, the Center is anticipating an overall budget of about $900 million.
