Officers Kill Pit Bull Mix After 4 People Bitten Near Antioch Trail
ANTIOCH (CBS SF) -- Police said the two off-leash dogs that bit four people in Antioch on Wednesday night are pit bull mixes whose owners have not been identified.
Officers shot and killed one of the dogs after the animals bit a man, his dogs and three neighbors in the 2700 block of Larkspur Drive around 8:45 p.m., according to police.
The four injured adults were either treated at the scene of the attack or transported to area hospitals. Their injuries were not considered life-threatening, according to police.
Police said the shooting occurred when the animals charged at the officers responding to the scene, killing the first dog and scaring off the other.
Animal Control officers captured the second aggressive dog without incident when it returned to the scene a short time later.
That dog, a male of unknown age, is being quarantined by Antioch Animal Services. If left unclaimed after 10 days, the dog will be euthanized, Lt. Diane Aguinaga said.
She said police are working to find the dogs' owners and encourage anyone with information to call Antioch police at (925) 779-6894.
