Oakley Train Fatality Possible Suicide
OAKLEY (CBS/BCN) -- A person was killed in Oakley Monday morning after stepping into the path of an oncoming freight train, BNSF Railway spokeswoman Lena Kent said.
The person was about 100 yards from the East Cypress Road crossing at about 9:05 a.m. The person saw the train coming and apparently stepped out in front of it, Kent said.
Information about the person was not immediately available.
Kent said nobody on the train was hurt physically, but that operators chose to be relieved of their duties for the next few days.
Kent pointed out that it is emotionally difficult for train operators when people are killed on the tracks.
