Oakland Teen Arrested In San Leandro With Stolen Car
SAN LEANDRO (CBS SF) -- A 15-year-old Oakland girl was arrested by San Leandro police Thursday evening on suspicion of possession of a stolen vehicle, police said.
Officers with the department's street crime unit spotted a 1989 Toyota Camry that had been reported stolen traveling on Bridge Road about 6:30 p.m.
The vehicle carrying five people attempted to evade police, spurring a short pursuit. After the stolen car ran a stop sign and a red light, the pursuit was canceled because of the danger the vehicle presented to the public, police said.
An undercover San Leandro police detective in the area of Huff and Callan avenues saw the vehicle pull over and observed all five people inside run away.
The undercover cop gave chase and attempted to detain the vehicle's driver, whom the officer took into custody in the 500 block of Estudillo Avenue.
She was arrested on suspicion of possession of a stolen vehicle, evading and resisting arrest and hit-and-run.
Before the vehicle pulled over, it sideswiped a Toyota pickup truck waiting at a light at the intersection of Bancroft and Estudillo avenues.
The driver of the truck was not injured.
