Oakland Singer Kehlani Hospitalized After Alleged Suicide Attempt

By Annie Reuter

(RADIO.COM) - R&B singer, Kehlani was hospitalized Monday night, after what is being reported as a suicide attempt. The Oakland-born artist, who had previously landed on Forbes' '30 Under 30' list, posted an Instagram photo yesterday that showed an IV drip in her arm. She captioned the photo, discussing her suicide attempt.

"Today I wanted to leave this earth," she wrote. "Being completely selfish for once. Never thought I'd get to such a low point. But..don't believe the blogs you read..no one was cheated on and I'm not a bad person..everyone is hurt and everyone is in a place of misunderstanding..but as of today, I had no single wish to see tomorrow.. But God saved me for a reason, and for that… I must be grateful.. Cuz I’m not in heaven right now for a reason. On that note..bye Instagram."

She has since deleted her Instagram account, but the post has been screen-shotted by other Instagram accounts and shared.

The suicide attempt reportedly came after media rumors about her relationships with PartyNextDoor, a singer/rapper on Drake's OVO label, and professional basketball player Kyrie Irving. Her reps have not responded to her condition as of press time.

After a stint on America's Got Talent, Kehlani worked with producer Jahaan Sweet for her first project Cloud 19, released in 2014 and ranked as one of the best albums of 2014 by Complex Magazine. Her follow-up, You Should Be Here, received a 2016 GRAMMY nomination for Best Urban Contemporary Album.
