2 Hurt In Oakland Shooting; School Locked Down
OAKLAND (BCN) - A shooting near Lake Merritt in Oakland Tuesday morning injured two people, left bullet holes in a nearby retirement home and caused a lockdown at a nearby school for about an hour.
The shooting was reported at about 9:20 a.m. on East 12th Street.
Police said the two victims were able to make it to a nearby hospital on their own. Information on their conditions was not immediately available.
The Dewey Academy continuation school was locked down for about an hour after the shooting, but no one at the school was injured.
Oakland Unified School District spokesman Troy Flint said the shooting didn't have anything to do with the school.
Flint said OUSD police were told by Oakland police that the shooting stemmed from a road rage incident.
An administrator of the J L Richard Terrace retirement home on E. 12th St., said there are nine bullet holes in their building from the shooting, and the gunfire narrowly missed a man and woman sitting in the lobby.
