Oakland Shooting Death Marks City's 84th Homicide
OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- The 84th homicide of the year in Oakland, and the third within 24 hours, was marked by the shooting death of a man early Friday morning, a police spokeswoman said.
Officer Johnna Watson said the latest killing was reported in the 1900 block of 105th Avenue in East Oakland just after midnight.
A man, whose name has not yet been released, was found suffering from a gunshot wound, Watson said. He was taken to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
No arrests had been made and no suspect information was immediately available Friday morning.
The death followed two homicides on Thursday.
Police responded to a shooting in the 2300 block of East 22nd Street at 1:58 p.m. Thursday.
A man, identified by family members as 21-year-old Anthony Green, was found unconscious and suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest and was later pronounced dead, police said.
Green had been visiting Peggy Paden, his great aunt, in her apartment and had been there for most of the day, according to the man's family.
Earlier on Thursday, 24-year-old MiAndrew Rachel, of Emeryville, was found dead from multiple gunshot wounds in the 900 block of West MacArthur Boulevard around 2:40 a.m.
Police said they do not yet have suspect information or a motive for either shooting.
Police also responded to a shooting at 4:24 p.m. Thursday at 34th and Webster streets.
A victim found there with a gunshot wound was taken to the hospital in stable condition, police said.
No suspects were taken into custody.
