School Lockdown Lifted After Oakland Suspect Search
OAKLAND (CBS SF) - A lockdown at an East Oakland campus that was prompted by a police search for a suspect has been lifted, an Oakland Unified School District spokesman said Thursday afternoon.
The lockdown went into effect around 12:45 p.m. for Roots International Academy, Futures Elementary School and Coliseum College Prep Academy, district spokesman Troy Flint said.
All of the schools are located on the Havenscourt campus at Havenscourt and International boulevards.
The lockdown has since been lifted and classes are resuming, Flint said.
"Some parents came down to the school because they heard about the situation, so if they wanted to take their kids, we let them," he said.
He said the suspect has not been taken into custody, but that the campus is considered safe. The suspect is not believed to have come onto the campus, he said.
The rest of the students will be let out at the normal time, he said.
