Oakland Unveils '100 Blocks' Strategy To Fight Crime
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) – City officials say they've stepped up enforcement in a 100 block area in west and east Oakland, where they say 92 percent of the violent crime in the city takes place.
Those 100 blocks are in west and east Oakland near MacArthur Boulevard and the Eastmont Substation. Extra police officers, the sheriff's office and parole officers will be on the streets. There will also be US Marshals tracking down fugitives. Recreation and Parks officials and public works officials will be in the area as well.
KCBS' Bob Melrose Reports:
After three months of extreme enforcement, the departments plan to pull back and evaluate the effectiveness of the program.
Violent crime was up throughout the city last year.
