Occupy Oakland Protest Remains Peaceful, Only 2 Arrests
OAKLAND (CBS SF) – Occupy protesters took to the streets of Oakland on Saturday night, gathering to protest what they called violent police tactics.
The anti-police march, which took place in downtown Oakland, wound through the streets for several hours. There was a heavy police presence and two people were arrested.
The group had made it known that the march would lead them to Oakland Police Headquarters. But unlike last week when a similar march took place that led to broken car windows, storefront vandalism and tires being punctured on a TV news van, Saturday's was fairly peaceful.
KCBS' Mark Seelig Reports:
Two people were arrested, one for allegedly moving a dumpster into the streets to use as a barricade and the other for interfering with that arrest.
Police had received warnings from the group about the threat of damage to private property and provoking violence against police, but the hundred or so extra officers in place kept them at bay, as they never made it to the police station.
Organizers have said that they will hold a weekly anti-police march on Saturday nights.
Last week, six people were arrested after clashing with police.
