Oakland Police Say Guns, Pot Grow Found In Robbery Suspect's Home
OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- A convicted felon has been arrested after police found five illegal firearms, stolen electronics, a large amount of cash and an indoor marijuana grow operation at his residence in North Oakland, police said Monday.
Oakland police spokeswoman Johnna Watson said police served a search warrant at the suspect's residence in the 900 block of Aileen Street on Friday as a result of their investigation into an incident in the 400 block of MacArthur Boulevard on Thursday in which an armed suspect approached a woman and stole her cellphone.
Watson said officers who entered the suspect's home recovered an illegal assault rifle, an illegal machine gun, three pistols, illegal high-capacity ammunition magazines, and laser weapon sights.
About 100 marijuana plants and dried marijuana were also found in the home, she said.
The suspect was at the residence and was immediately arrested, according to Watson. She said he has "a very lengthy criminal history" but declined to release his name.
The high-capacity magazines are "pretty rare" and removing them from the streets of Oakland is a "significant" development, Watson said.
The stolen electronics include cellphones, laptop computers and iPads, she said.
"It appears that there were a lot of victims," Watson said.
Investigators also are trying to find out if the suspect and the weapons found at his residence are linked to other crimes, she said.
