Oakland Sexual Assault Victim Captures Attacker On Video
OAKLAND (KCBS / CBS 5) -- A woman who was robbed and sexually assaulted by a man who broke into her West Oakland home managed to videotape the suspect with her cellphone.
Police said the 28-year-old victim, identified only as Christine, was home alone when a man kicked open the backdoor of her home in the 900 block of Apgar Street at 9:40 p.m. Tuesday.
As the man started stealing electronics, Christine grabbed her phone and started videotaping.
OPD Officer Holly Joshi said the man darted out of the house quickly but "came right back in and the victim was sexually assaulted from there."
Police are now seeking the thin, bald African-American man in his early 40s wearing man a blue-and-white T-shirt and jeans as shown in the video.
KCBS' Holly Quan Reports:
Joshi said it's very unusual for a victim to be able to videotape an attacker. She said police considered this a high priority case and urged anyone with information to contact the Oakland Police Department.
A reward of up to $5,000 was being offered for information leading to the man's arrest.
