Oakland Police, Deputies In Standoff With Barricaded Suspect
OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- Oakland police and Alameda County sheriff's deputies are in a standoff with a suspect who barricaded himself inside a home in Oakland Monday night after shooting at a deputy, a sheriff's official said.
The incident began around 8 p.m. when deputies attempted to stop two suspects who were in a vehicle that was reported stolen, a sheriff's deputy said.
After a brief vehicle pursuit, at least one of the men ran away from the vehicle and into a house in the 500 block of High Street.
The man fired a shot at a sheriff's deputy but no one was injured, sheriff's officials said.
Oakland police spokeswoman Johnna Watson said officials do not know if the suspect knows the home's residents.
At least one occupant was able to get out of the home and it was not immediately known how many others were inside.
Watson said police were treating it as a hostage situation.
