Oakland Plans Extra Security At Sunday Raiders Game
OAKLAND (KCBS) - The Oakland Police Department will have more officers than usual at the Coliseum for Sunday's Raiders game because of the attacks at Candlestick last weekend, Police Chief Anthony Batts said Thursday.
"We will have extra officers in the parking lots for tailgating," Batts said, even though tailgating had not been a major problem at Oakland football games.
Batts and Mayor Jean Quan said they wanted greater police visibility this weekend after two men were shot and another was beaten unconscious during a preseason game with the San Francisco 49ers last Saturday.
"I actually saw much of the violence that happened," Quan said.

The San Francisco 49ers have also announced increased security for that team's Saturday home game against the Houston Texans, including a ban on tailgating once the game starts. There will also be DUI checkpoints around Candlestick Park.
Mayor Quan acknowledged that people are worried about safety, but said she doesn't expect trouble at the Coliseum this weekend.
"We've never had the kind of incident that we've seen recently in L.A. and San Francisco," she said, referring to the beating of Bryan Stow outside Dodger Stadium after a Giants game at the start of baseball season.
Quan and Batts noted that the National Football League considers the security plan at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum to be a model for other stadiums, in part because officers are routinely stationed both inside the stadium and in the parking lots.
The Raiders play the New Orleans Saints at 5 p.m. Sunday.
