Oakland Parolee Arrested For Identity Theft And Forgery
OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- A 22-year-old Oakland parolee has been arrested after police found him with $10,000 in cash and 175 stolen or forged bank cards, the California Highway Patrol said.
CHP officers who were working special enforcement operations stopped Jovon Williams at about 9 p.m. on Tuesday for speeding in a 2003 BMW with broken headlight on MacArthur Boulevard near 73rd Avenue in East Oakland, CHP Officer Sean Wilkenfeld said.
Officers discovered that Williams didn't have a valid driver's license and was on parole, according to Wilkenfeld.
Officers searched Williams' car and found the cash and the stolen or forged bank cards, Wilkenfeld said.
Williams was arrested on suspicion of identity theft and forgery as well as for violating the terms of his parole, according to Wilkenfeld.
He was booked at the North Alameda County Jail in Oakland, Wilkenfeld said.
