Oakland Mothers Launch Program To Get Guns Off The Street
OAKLAND (KCBS) – After several tragedies over the past year, a group of Oakland mothers is working together, launching a grassroots movement to get guns off the streets.
In 2011, three children five years old and younger were shot and killed in Oakland, each of them in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Oakland Mayor Jean Quan said the deadly violence has prompted a special group of women to take action.
"One hundred mothers are launching a peace march on June 2 where they want to buy back 100 guns," she said.
The first 100 people who turn in a gun will get a $100 gift card. Oakland Police Chief Howard Jordan said this is different from gun buy back programs of year's past.
"With this particular gun buy back program, there is no cash for guns," Jordan said. "And we are going to be requiring people to be Oakland residents in order for them to receive any of the gift cards."
The group is holding a fundraiser this week for the June peace march. They are also accepting donations for a cause they firmly believe in.
