Oakland Mayor-Elect Libby Schaaf Will 'Fight Like Hell' To Keep A's, Raiders In Town
OAKLAND (KCBS) - Oakland Mayor Jean Quan and Mayor-elect Libby Schaaf began the transition at City Hall on Thursday.
While the two candidates did not see eye-to-eye on all issues during the campaign, Schaaf said she hopes to expand on Mayor Quan's Coliseum City project, and wants to keep the Oakland A's and Oakland Raiders in town.

"I'm very appreciative of the bold visionary project of Coliseum City. I look forward to continuing the mayor's work on that vision and doing everything within my power to keep our sports teams in Oakland," Schaaf said.
She said she plans to call A's co-owner Lew Wolff and tell him how much of a diehard fan she is and that she will "fight like hell" to keep the team in town and find a site for a new ballpark.
The Coliseum City project would develop the land around the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum and Arena into a sports, entertainment and science and technology district, turning it into a more dynamic urban setting with retail, entertainment, arts, and culture.
Quan said she is leaving Schaaf a city that is in better shape everyday. "I think the renaissance of Oakland is well on its way," she said. "I feel proud of my record and I will stand on my record."
Schaaf said she will try to build on that foundation laid by Quan, but also will keep closer tabs on the performance of the police department.
