Oakland Man Arrested For Allegedly Raping Woman In Sausalito Park
SAUSALITO (CBS SF) -- An Oakland man was arrested late Friday night for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman in Sausalito after meeting to discuss a job opportunity, police said Saturday.
Police said the victim met with the suspect, identified as 51-year-old Diego Rodriguez, in downtown Sausalito to discuss a possible job opening at a local restaurant. The suspect had allegedly been contacting the victim over the past month saying he might be able to get her a job, according to police.
The two met at Poggio Trattoria restaurant at 777 Bridgeway where Rodriguez bought the victim multiple alcoholic drinks and later asked her to walk with him to nearby Gabrielson Park, police said.
Police said the suspect allegedly sexually assaulted the victim at the park.
Afterward, the pair returned to Poggio where the victim locked herself in a bathroom stall and called police as the suspect tried to get in, according to police.
Officers arrived on the scene and arrested Rodriguez on suspicion of rape and took him to Marin County Jail, where he is being held on $100,000 bail.
Police continue to investigate the sexual assault and are looking for a possible witness seen in the park at the time of the crime. She was described only as a white woman with a flashlight who was walking her dog, according to police.
