Oakland High School Senior Killed In Alameda Shooting
ALAMEDA (CBS SF) -- Friends and family mourned an Oakland high school senior who was shot dead outside a bowling alley in Alameda on Saturday night.
The Oakland Unified School District identified Antwaun Williams as the teen victim shot and killed just after 9 p.m. in the 300 block of Park Street.
"It hurts to know that somebody who was always there for you is gone and you cant do nothing about it," student Fredrick Mackay said.
Alameda police said that Williams was found suffering a gunshot wound and was taken to Highland Hospital in Oakland, but died there a short time later.
Police have provided few details about the shooting and have not disclosed any description of a possible suspect or what the motive might have been. Police did not return multiple requests for updates about the investigation today.
Friends and family posting on Facebook said that Williams had gone bowling at the AMF Southshore Lanes bowling alley there when he was shot in the parking lot. They said it appeared he was an innocent bystander caught between a fight between other men there at the time.
"He was always praying that one day he would get to the NFL. He strived to be the best he could be in order to achieve his goals," Parent and teacher Latonia Sanders said.
Williams was a varsity football player at Oakland High School. A small ceremony was held today to remember him, even though school was not in session, according to the school district. His classmates wrote messages on a wall for him.
"He was funny, friendly and full of life," Oakland High School Assistant Principal Shoshanna Towers said.
A GoFundMe page was established on behalf of Williams' mother and had raised over $4,700 as of this afternoon. It is available at https://www.gofundme.com/memorial-fund-for-antwaun-williams.
"For the man he's grown up to be, how passionate he was about football, how much he loved his family, especially his baby brother," Antwuan's Aunt Brittney Thomas said.
