Oakland Group Releases iPhone App For Medical Pot Information
OAKLAND (KCBS) ---- The federal crackdown on medical marijuana clubs has resulted in hundreds of clubs closing their doors, and it's changing how some people get their prescriptions filled.
The crackdown in California and three other states began in October with threats of criminal prosecution and property seizure. Since then Kris Hermes with Americans for Safe Access in Oakland says more 200 facilities have closed their doors, mainly voluntarily.
"It's unclear whether the federal government is really going to act in any significant way on its threats," Hermes said.
KCBS' Susan Kennedy Reports:
Hermes said because of what he calls the hostility towards storefront clubs, delivery services are on the rise. But he said the delivery services don't address the demand.
Hermes calls the current climate a setback and said his group is fighting the crackdown in court. Americans for Safe Access has 50,000 members and has just released an iPhone app to help medical marijuana advocates stay informed.
