Oakland Family Members Among 4 Dead In Placerville Crash
OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- Four people were killed, including three from Oakland, in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 50 in Placerville on Sunday, a California Highway Patrol officer said.
The crash was reported at 6:05 p.m. on Highway 50 near Braeburn Lane, CHP spokesman Officer Quinn Cuthbertson said.
A Toyota Prius was traveling west on the highway when, for unknown reasons, the car veered left and crossed into the eastbound lanes before being struck by a Toyota Sienna minivan, Cuthbertson said.
Three of the four people inside the Prius were killed.
Those people were identified by the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office as Sheng Kun Su, 38; Shu Zhen Shao, 39; and Shawn Su, 8. The fourth person in the Prius, a 10-year-old girl, survived with minor injuries, Cuthbertson said.
The girl was released from Marshall Hospital to her extended family in the Bay Area, El Dorado County sheriff's Sgt. Jim Beyers said.
One passenger in the minivan, Nora Temple, 4, was also killed, despite being strapped into a safety seat.
Three of the other occupants of the minivan, including two 1-year-old boys, were treated at Marshall Hospital and released. A fifth occupant is in fair condition at Sutter Roseville Medical Center, Byers said.
No other vehicles were involved and no witnesses have been identified.
