Oakland Driver In I-880 Crash Killed Trying To Cross Freeway
OAKLAND (CBS/AP) -- Investigators are trying to sort things out after a man was killed while trying to run across Interstate 880 in Oakland early Saturday.
The California Highway Patrol says the man was driving with a female passenger when his car crashed into the center divider about 4:40 a.m.
CHP spokesman Sam Morgan told the San Francisco Chronicle that after the crash the man got out of his car and crossed the freeway on foot. When the man tried to return to the center divider he was hit and killed by a car.
Morgan told the newspaper that what he termed a "physical altercation" between the man and his passenger may have caused him to lose control of his car.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released.
