Oakland Shootings Kill 5 Men In Less Than 24 Hours
OAKLAND (CBS SF) - Five men were fatally shot in four separate shootings in Oakland since Monday night, according to police.
The latest shooting was reported in the 1500 block of 57th Avenue at 2:42 p.m. Tuesday, police said.
A male victim was found unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene.
Additional details were not immediately available.
Earlier, a double-fatal shooting was reported Tuesday morning at 6:06 a.m. in the 1600 block of 72nd Avenue.
Oakland police spokeswoman Officer Johnna Watson said two men in their 20s were sitting in a parked car when someone approached the vehicle and shot them.
Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
A man who was at the crime scene mid-morning said he was the uncle of one of the victims, whom he identified as 23-year-old Robert Dell.
The uncle, who declined to give his name, said his nephew lived in the block where the shooting happened. He said he didn't know the second victim, other than that he was a man in his mid- to late 20s.
Police remained at the crime scene throughout the morning. A green minivan was parked in front of 1627 72nd Ave. The front driver's-side and passenger-side windows were blown out, and glass was shattered on the street and sidewalk.
The van was towed away around 10:30 a.m. but the street was still blocked off with police tape, and neighbors sat in front of their homes watching the activity.
On Monday night, a shooting was reported at 8:56 p.m. in the 9000 block of MacArthur Boulevard.
The victim, an Oakland man who was shot while sitting in a parked car, was found unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene, Watson said.
A second victim was injured in that shooting but survived, and walked away from the scene and before calling police from a different location, Watson said. The second victim was only identified as an Oakland woman.
An employee at Harry's Drive-In Liquor at 9002 Macarthur Blvd. said the shooting had occurred in the store's parking lot.
Nearly an hour and a half later, a fatal shooting was reported at 2020 MacArthur Blvd. at 10:20 p.m., Watson said.
KCBS' Anna Duckworth Reports:
A man had been gunned down, also while sitting in a parked car, she said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
An employee at the Two Star Market at 2020 MacArthur Blvd. said the vehicle had been parked in front of the store. A window at the market was broken in the shooting, but no one at the store was injured, he said.
No arrests have been made in any of the shootings, and police have not yet released the victims' names.
