Oakland Councilmember Seeks State of Emergency After Girl, Officers Shot
OAKLAND (KCBS) — An Oakland City Council member has asked the City Attorney to declare a state of emergency in the wake of this past week's shootings of two police officers and an 8-year-old girl.
Police Chief Howard Jordan was joined by the District Attorney's Office, a US Marshal's representative and other city leaders in a Tuesday news conference to discuss the recent violence. The three incidents, all in East Oakland, include Monday's drive-by shooting of the young girl, Friday's shooting of a uniformed officer, and last Monday's shooting of an undercover officer.
Councilmember Noel Gallo said he hopes emergency funds would bring in more outside help. "This madness that's happening in Oakland has to end. Too many innocent children, grandmas, cops, and teenagers are being shot, killed, assaulted in many ways and it's got to end," Gallo said.

Jordan said his investigators along with the US Marshal's office and the DA's office are collaborating to bring violent crime suspects into custody and has asked the public to do the same. He specifically mentioned the shooting of the girl, who was playing outside a home on 65th Avenue when she was hit by a bullet.
"I know for a fact, because I was at the scene yesterday that someone out there saw what happened and we want you to help us solve this crime," said Jordan.
Four suspects are in custody in connection with the shootings of the two officers.
