Oakland Childcare Centers May Be Closing
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) _ Oakland school officials are trying to find funding to keep seven day care centers open.
The centers are slated to close for good at the end of the day Friday as a result of proposed state budget cuts. Those cuts have forced the district to reduce its early childhood education funding for the coming year by $13 million, or 73 percent.
District spokesman Troy Flint says school officials are trying to "pull a rabbit out of the hat" to keep the centers open but parents should be ready to make adjustments for their closure.

The seven centers serve about 500 preschool and elementary schoolchildren. They provide supplemental education in math and other areas in addition to day care services before and after school.
