'Noooo!' Star Wars On Blu-Ray To Be Released
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - As technology evolves, consumers must keep up or get left in the dust. On September 16, Bay Area filmmakers, Lucasfilm is set to release "Star Wars: The Complete Saga" on Blu-Ray. But not without a little controversy.
For George Lucas, the progression to Blu Ray gives him the opportunity to further polish his creation that defined a generation. Several additions and modifications have been made to both the original trilogy with Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher (pictured) to the recent trilogy starring Ewan McGregor, Hayden Christensen and Academy Award-winning Mommy, Natalie Portman.
The most controversial change has been an added "Nooooo!" to the end of Return of the Jedi, when Darth Vader saves his son, Luke Skywalker from the Sith Lord, Darth Sideous aka "The Emperor". Many fans have felt Vader's silence alone in the original version was a gripping point in the storyline. Granted, the film was not made to receive accolades in acting, but to simply entertain. However, internet buzz have many fans very much upset and feel that the additional voiceover was unneeded to enhance the scene on the new Blu Ray version.
Other changes include a newly added CGI version of Yoda that replaced the puppet in Episode I: The Phantom Menace, to modifying Ben Kenobi's "Krayt Dragon" call to scare off the Sandpeople in Episode IV: A New Hope and adding CGI effects on the Ewoks so that they can blink their eyes in Episode VI: Return of the Jedi.
No matter the changes, good or bad, most Star Wars "fans" will purchase the next phase in format of the timeless story that spans many generations. We first went out to see the blockbuster in theaters, then buying the saga when it came out on VHS Videotape, then there was Laserdisc, then DVD and now onto Blu-Ray. Rumor has it, the Star Wars saga will be once again released in theaters in of course, 3D. Set your blasters on stun…for that one!
